85 Arrested Nationwide as Police Intensify Crackdown on Online Gambling Syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR – A sweeping nationwide police operation has resulted in the arrest of 85 individuals suspected of involvement in large-scale online gambling activities, signalling intensified enforcement efforts by the Royal Malaysia Police.

The arrests were made through coordinated raids under Ops Dadu Mega, with police targeting premises believed to function as call centres supporting online gambling operations.

According to Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk M. Kumar, a total of 21 premises were stormed, and the majority were found to be fully equipped operational hubs. Equipment seized included computers, mobile devices and supporting communication tools.

Initial findings point to a sophisticated network with syndicates targeting both Malaysians and foreign customers. Police also uncovered an investment scam centre within one of the premises, highlighting the evolving tactics of cyber-based criminal operations.

Those detained consisted of local citizens and foreigners, believed to have served various roles including technical operators and customer support agents. They are now being investigated under multiple legal provisions including gambling, fraud and immigration laws.

Police statistics revealed that more than 117 gambling call centres have been shut down this year alone, with over 700 suspects detained. Authorities say this reflects the scale of the problem while demonstrating strong enforcement commitment.

Kumar assured that police will maintain momentum and strengthen surveillance, while calling on the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
