KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia is aiming to win four medals in petanque at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, with hopes that at least one will be gold.
MBSF acting president Cheah Ban Cheng said the target is realistic, especially if the team applies the right strategy against strong opponents like host nation Thailand, which recently produced world champions.
He said Cambodia’s expected withdrawal could also boost Malaysia’s chances of finishing on the podium.
The national team will feature 24 players: 12 men and 12 women, including the trio who won all five of Malaysia’s previous SEA Games gold medals.
Malaysia won one gold, one silver and three bronze in the 2023 SEA Games, and its best performance was in 2017 with two gold.
MBSF also launched a new official website to provide information about athletes, competitions, results, and development programmes.
