P. Ramlee’s legacy remains a moral compass for a changing society

IPOH — The films and compositions of the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee continue to be viewed as rich philosophical texts that offer guidance in confronting moral and social dilemmas of the present day.

UPSI board member Datuk Seri Ahmad Burak described P. Ramlee as a cultural thinker who used artistic expression to instil values such as integrity, compassion and accountability.

He pointed out that many of the artist’s films explore themes of dignity, respect for knowledge, social responsibility and the importance of family — elements that resonate strongly with contemporary educational principles.

At a seminar dedicated to P. Ramlee’s intellectual legacy, scholars discussed the need for academic institutions to treat his work as an important cultural resource that remains instructive for future generations.
