BANGKOK: Malaysia’s Under-23 football squad received a timely boost ahead of their SEA Games 2025 semi-final showdown against hosts Thailand with the return of striker Muhammad Haqimi Azim Rosli to the team camp.
National head coach Mohd Nafuzi Zain confirmed that Haqimi, who was granted permission to return home following the passing of his stepfather, is scheduled to rejoin the squad later today.
According to Nafuzi, Haqimi’s decision to return despite personal grief reflects his professionalism and commitment to the national cause.
“We need him. With several players sidelined by injuries, he is currently our only natural striker. His presence gives us options and confidence,” he said.
Haqimi had earlier scored in Malaysia’s opening 4-1 win over Laos before missing the subsequent defeat to Vietnam, a result that tested the squad’s resilience ahead of the knockout stage.
