BANGKOK: Malaysia’s women’s javelin thrower Ng Jing Xuan delivered a historic performance at the Thailand SEA Games 2025, breaking the national record on her way to winning a silver medal at the Suphachalasai National Stadium.
The 21-year-old athlete produced a throw of 52.17 metres, setting a new Malaysian national record and securing second place in a highly competitive final. The achievement marked a major milestone in her career and underscored her rapid progress on the regional athletics stage.
Jing Xuan’s record-breaking throw significantly surpassed her previous personal best of 49.11 metres, which she achieved at the Philippine Open Championships in May. The improvement highlights her growing consistency, technical refinement and physical development over the past year.
The previous national record of 49.34 metres had stood since 2014 and was held by Siti Nur Nadiah Othman, making Jing Xuan’s achievement particularly noteworthy in Malaysian athletics history.
The gold medal was claimed by Thailand’s Jariya Wichaidit, who dominated the event with a throw of 55.64 metres, while Indonesia’s Nur Kamila Bahtiar secured bronze with a mark of 51.66 metres.
Although Jing Xuan narrowly missed out on gold, her performance was widely regarded as a significant success for the Malaysian contingent. Competing against the region’s top athletes, she demonstrated the ability to challenge established rivals and raise Malaysia’s profile in women’s javelin.
