Record-Breaking Performances Fuel Malaysia’s SEA Games Campaign

BANGKOK: Record-breaking performances by Malaysian athletes have further strengthened the country’s bid to reach the 200-medal mark at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

Malaysia added four gold medals yesterday, courtesy of equestrian athlete Megan Min Ern Ding, shooter Ong Chee Keng, men’s bowling pair Muhammad Rafiq Ismail and Muhammad Syazirol Shamsudin, as well as discus thrower Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin.

Irfan stole the spotlight by defending his SEA Games title for the seventh time since 2013 and breaking the Games record with a throw of 60.23 metres, eclipsing the previous mark that had stood for 26 years.

Meanwhile, Ong Chee Keng ended Malaysia’s 32-year wait for a gold medal in the men’s individual trap shooting event, delivering the nation’s first gold in the discipline since the 1993 SEA Games in Singapore.
