KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has issued a stern warning to individuals circulating unauthorised information and images related to the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, stating that such actions may be subject to legal consequences under three separate laws.
The laws in question are:
Section 15 of the Child Act 2001
Section 203A of the Penal Code
Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
The warning follows the police’s discovery of images and information involving a child allegedly linked to the case being spread on social media by certain irresponsible parties.
In a statement issued on Wednesday (August 6), Mohd Khalid said the shared content could mislead the public and compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
“This act not only disrupts the ongoing investigation but also jeopardises the process of justice for all involved,” he said.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) clarified that all investigative procedures, including the post-mortem, are being conducted in accordance with established legal protocols and current laws.
The public is strongly advised to cease uploading or sharing unverified content, especially those disclosing information related to the ongoing investigation.
