Police Open Investigation Paper After Scuffle During Protest Memorandum Submission

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation following a commotion involving protest participants during a memorandum submission at Jalan Parlimen earlier today, which resulted in a police officer being injured.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said authorities detected a viral video on TikTok showing protesters engaging in provocative behaviour and forcefully pushing through police officers tasked with maintaining order.

He confirmed that a police report has been lodged for the incident.

“As a result of the commotion, one police officer sustained injuries and has received medical treatment.

“An investigation paper has been opened under Sections 353 and 427 of the Penal Code for further action,” he said in a statement issued tonight.

Datuk Fadil emphasised that the police remain committed to their role as facilitators, upholding the public’s right to express views and assemble peacefully, following democratic principles practised in the country.

“This right is enshrined in the Federal Constitution and should be exercised responsibly and respectfully,” he added.

He further stressed that firm action will be taken against any individual or group found to have incited violence or engaged in extreme provocation during such gatherings.
