KUALA LUMPUR, August 17 – The Kota Kinabalu Coroner’s Court has fixed a mention date for tomorrow, Monday, August 18, 2025, to set the hearing dates for the upcoming inquest.
The application to hold the inquest was made by the Director of Prosecution for the State of Sabah, by the provisions under subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Act 593).
Given the high level of public interest in this case, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) will be requesting that the proceedings be expedited.
This is to ensure that justice is served not only for the family of the late Zara Qairina but also in the interest of the general public, said in a statement.
The Attorney General’s Chambers refers to its media statement dated August 13, 2025, which announced the decision to conduct an inquest to determine the cause and circumstances of Zara Qairina’s death, including whether any criminal elements were involved.
