KUCHING, 22 August 2025 – Member of Parliament for Mas Gading, Mordi Bimol, has welcomed the recent announcement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on the government’s commitment to strengthening border control capabilities in Sarawak, particularly within the Mas Gading constituency.
In his statement, Mordi expressed his appreciation for the approval of RM28 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) for the construction of seven new security control posts, including those at Raso 1 (Lundu) and Stass (Bau).
He said the long-awaited move was a significant step forward for border communities who have long faced challenges such as smuggling of controlled and subsidised goods, as well as encroachments on native customary land.
“I hope this new control post can be expedited, fully staffed with full-time security personnel, and equipped with modern surveillance systems such as drones, CCTV, and strategic communication centres,” Mordi said.
He also called for the government to accelerate the construction of the RM50 million Integrated Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Serikin, which is currently at the tender evaluation stage and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026.
Highlighting its strategic importance, Mordi stated, “As an official entry point from Kalimantan, Indonesia, into Bau, the ICQS Serikin is not only vital for enhancing immigration control but also for stimulating legitimate and structured cross-border economic development.”
In addition, Mordi raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the existing ICQS Biawak facilities, urging the government to upgrade them to meet the demands of current security operations.
“Border security is not just a matter of sovereignty—it’s closely linked to economic growth. Well-managed borders can reduce smuggling losses, open up legitimate trade opportunities, attract investment, and ensure the well-being of our people,” he concluded.
The developments are seen as part of a broader national effort to reinforce Malaysia’s border infrastructure, especially in key regions like Sarawak that share land borders with neighbouring countries.
