KUALA LUMPUR — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) continues its long-standing tradition of celebrating Merdeka by offering the Sinaran Merdeka Incentive 2025, allowing commercial customers to reduce the cost of decorative lighting during the National Day celebrations.
Since its introduction in 2000, the programme has consistently drawn strong participation, with 1,027 applications received as of 15 August 2025.
This reflects continued interest from commercial customers, who see the initiative both as a cost-saving and a way to enhance the Merdeka celebrations. Last year, TNB received a total of 1,863 applications.
“We truly appreciate this initiative. Encouraging decorative lighting on buildings and surrounding areas creates a lively and patriotic atmosphere throughout the Merdeka season,” said Mohd Fizan B. Mat Nor, Integrated Facility Manager of Lalaport Mall and one of the programme’s participants.
The same sentiment was echoed by Abdul Hadi Ali, Deputy General Manager of Sungei Wang Plaza, also a participant, who said, “As a shopping mall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, we are proud to be part of the Sinaran Merdeka Programme, as it reflects our love for the nation while fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.”
Building on this positive response, TNB has enhanced the Sinaran Merdeka Incentive for 2025. In line with the Electricity Tariff Restructuring effective 1 July 2025, this year’s incentive introduces specific rates for Non-Domestic Low Voltage and Medium Voltage customers involved in commercial activities such as managing skyscrapers, office towers, commercial complexes, shopping malls, hotels and petrol stations.
Those eligible are customers under the General Tariff and Time-of-Use (ToU) categories who applied for electricity supply before 1 August 2024, with at least one actual bill issued in May, June or July 2025.
The incentive runs from 1 August to 30 September 2025, at rates of 28.91 sen/kWh (Low Voltage) and 13.37 sen/kWh (Medium Voltage), which are respectively 57% and 45% lower than the normal rates. Calculations will be based on additional consumption compared to the average of the previous three months (May, June, July 2025).
The rebate will be reflected in the October 2025 bill as a one-off entry under the description “Sinaran Merdeka Incentive”.
Applications are open until 15 September 2025 via the myTNB portal (www.mytnb.com.my) or at any nearby Kedai Tenaga. For more information, contact TNB CareLine at 1-300-88-5454 or email tnbcareline@tnb.com.my.
