KOTA KINABALU – Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick has expressed his appreciation for the cooperation shown by the Public Works Department (JKR) in addressing issues related to the Pan Borneo Highway project raised by residents of Kg Kolopis, Penampang.
Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said he hopes the clarification provided by JKR will help ease concerns among affected residents.
“I appreciate the willingness of Datuk Shahelmey and the JKR team to provide explanations and engage in discussions on the matters raised by the residents,” he said.
Ewon made the remarks following a courtesy visit to Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Works, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, earlier on Monday (September 8).
Despite being currently on personal leave in preparation for the birth of his child, Ewon said his responsibilities as a Member of Parliament remain a priority.
“The purpose of this visit was to discuss several matters, particularly regarding additional work under the Pan Borneo project — specifically the construction of a vehicular box culvert for light vehicles in Kg Kolopis, which has drawn various reactions from local residents,” he said.
Ewon also informed that JKR, along with other relevant agencies and stakeholders, will conduct a site visit tomorrow to demarcate the actual road reserve area and affected locations.
“No residential structures will be demolished for the implementation of this additional scope of work. I hope this will bring clarity and reassurance to the residents involved,” he added.
The courtesy visit also included several representatives from Kg Kolopis: Lofina, Nicholas, and Johnny.
