KJ rejoins UMNO? That’s better than someone who jumped party – Puteri UMNO chief

KUALA LUMPUR: “That’s better than being in UMNO but jumping to another party.”

That was the reaction of the UMNO Puteri Movement chief, Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, when commenting on rumours regarding the possibility of former UMNO Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, rejoining the party.

According to him, Khairy, who comes from UMNO, has never shown any inclination to join any other party, therefore it is seen that he still has room to return. “However, he (KJ) must comply with the process set by the party and it is up to the members of the UMNO Supreme Working Council.

“He (KJ) came from UMNO, I have never seen him leaning towards any party. But KJ needs to follow the processes like others,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI.
He also stressed that UMNO does not belong to individuals, but rather to all members and the community who still love and fight for the party.

“UMNO is the right of UMNO members and the community who love UMNO’s struggle, not the property of individuals,” he said.

The statement came following increasingly heated speculation about the possibility of Khairy returning to active politics through UMNO after a long absence from the country’s political scene.

Today, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that although Khairy’s dismissal has been in effect for three years, he is eligible to apply to return to the party, but the decision on whether to accept or not will be determined by the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT).

He said that UMNO was open to accepting members who had been sacked or suspended back in an effort to strengthen the party, but the UMNO constitution stipulated that their acceptance would only be decided by the MKT, which was the highest body to determine disciplinary matters and the readmission of sacked or suspended members.
