Borneo Medical Centre Raises the Bar with Next-Generation Cancer Treatment

KUCHING, Nov 3 — Two state-of-the-art medical technologies unveiled today at Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) are poised to revolutionise cancer care in Sarawak and beyond.

The Halcyon Radiation Therapy System and the Gallium-68 PSMA PET-CT scanner, valued at RM20 million, make BMC the first facility in Borneo to offer such advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, represented by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the introduction signifies the state’s commitment to world-class medical care.

“These technologies bring international-standard treatment closer to the people,” he said.

“The Halcyon system offers precision and comfort, while the PSMA scanner provides unmatched accuracy in early prostate cancer detection.”

He added that patients can now receive top-tier care within Sarawak without having to seek treatment in Kuala Lumpur or overseas.

Abang Johari emphasised that continued investment in innovation will help position Sarawak as a regional centre for health excellence and medical tourism.

“With our modern infrastructure, professional expertise and welcoming environment, Sarawak has the potential to become a preferred health destination for patients from around the region,” he said.
