With six awards, “Babah” crowned Best Film at FFM34

KUALA LUMPUR: The film “Babah” was named Best Film at the 34th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM34) which was held at the Seri Angkasa Auditorium, Angkasapuri Kota Media, here last night.

The success qualified the film to receive a Creative Content Fund (DKK) incentive worth RM1 million and a trophy.

The victory defeated four other finalists in the same category, namely Soloz: Game of Live, Takluk: Lahad Datu, Reversi and Blood Brothers: Bara Naga.

The main award was presented by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, accompanied by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Chairman of the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) Datuk Hans Isaac and FINAS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib.

Also present was the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.

Not only that, the film’s lead actors, Qi Razali and Sweet Qismina, each managed to take home the Best Actor and Best Actress trophies.

Apart from that, Babah also won the Best Screenplay, Best Original Story trophies and its director, Mohd Shah Faizul Ibrahim, also won the Promising Director trophy.

Meanwhile, the film that also faced stiff competition, Blood Brothers: Bara Naga, also won six categories, namely Special Film Box Office Award, Best Theme Song, Best Original Music Score, Best Cinematography, Best Action and Horror, and Best Supporting Actor.

Two films, Ejen Ali The Movie 2 and Takluk: Lahad Datu, received the Special Jury Award while the FFM34 production awarded veteran actor Datuk Ahmad Tarmimi Siregar the Special Trophy of All Time.

Themed “Creative Works, Dynamic Cinema”, each FFM34 winner received RM5,000 in cash and a trophy, while the Special Award winner received RM10,000 and a trophy.
