Malaysia–Oman Relations Strengthened Through 9th Al-Multaqa Al-Omani at IIUM

SELANGOR, Nov 4 — The long-standing friendship between Malaysia and the Sultanate of Oman has entered a new chapter of cooperation with the successful hosting of the 9th Al-Multaqa Al-Omani, held at the Cultural Centre of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

The annual forum, jointly organised by Oman’s Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and IIUM, continues to serve as a vital bridge linking the two nations through shared values of education, culture, and Islamic diplomacy.

Terengganu State Executive Councillor Dr Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, who attended as a guest of honour, described the event as an intellectual and spiritual exchange that strengthens not only bilateral relations but also the broader bonds of the global Muslim community.

“Al-Multaqa Al-Omani is more than an academic gathering; it is a convergence of knowledge and understanding that unites two Islamic cultures. Through dialogue and shared perspectives, it paves the way for deeper collaboration in education, culture, and diplomacy between Malaysia and Oman,” said Dr Khalil during his speech.

He commended both Oman’s Ministry of Awqaf and IIUM for their efforts in nurturing a culture of intellectual engagement that transcends borders, fostering meaningful partnerships between Muslim scholars, educators, and cultural leaders.

Dr Khalil added that the initiative resonates with Terengganu’s ongoing commitment to promoting “diplomacy through knowledge and culture”, a principle the state actively upholds in its international engagements.

First introduced nearly a decade ago, Al-Multaqa Al-Omani has become a key platform for Oman to share its rich Islamic heritage, cultural traditions, and scholarly contributions with the world — while strengthening academic cooperation with Malaysian institutions.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Sheikh Ahmad Saud al-Siyabi, Secretary of Dar al-Ifta’ Oman, who also delivered one of the keynote addresses during the forum.

The state of Terengganu has long maintained a close partnership with Oman, particularly through initiatives such as the Terengganu International Summit (TIS) launched in 2023, and ongoing strategic collaborations in the petroleum sector between Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation (EPIC) and Omani investors.

In closing, Dr Khalil expressed confidence that Malaysia–Oman relations will continue to thrive across multiple sectors — from trade and energy to education, cultural exchange, and diplomatic engagement — reflecting a shared vision of mutual respect, scholarly advancement, and unity among Muslim nations.
