KEMAMAN — The Terengganu state government has completed the construction of a new bridge in Kampung Geliga Che Akob, funded with an allocation of RM300,000 under its ongoing rural infrastructure programme.
Cukai assemblyman Dato’ Hanafiah Mat said the project, launched in early August, was carried out to replace a road section that collapsed due to erosion about six months ago, disrupting transport for villagers and fishermen.
“The new bridge ensures safer and smoother access for residents and workers in the fisheries sector. It’s one of several people-centric projects implemented to enhance local mobility and safety,” he said.
He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in rural areas and improving quality of life for local communities.
Meanwhile, Geliga Jambatan JPKK chairman, Zukefeli Hamzah, said the project has restored an essential route connecting the village to surrounding areas.
“This bridge will not only make travel easier but also help boost small-scale economic activities such as fishing and trading within our community,” he said.
