BESUT, Nov 7 — Winding through lush hills and overlooking sweeping coastal views, the new Bukit Keluang–Bukit Bubus Alternative Road is more than just infrastructure — it’s a RM51 million gateway to growth and beauty.
The 2.5-kilometre stretch, connecting Kampung Tembila to Bukit Keluang, features two elegant bridges spanning Sungai Keluang Besar and Sungai Keluang Kecil, forming a route expected to redefine Besut’s coastal experience.
“This is a landmark for Kota Putera,” said assemblyman Mohd Nurkhuzaini Ab. Rahman. “Its views rival international destinations, and it will boost tourism and the local economy.”
But amid the optimism, he voiced a warning: the road’s smooth surface and scenic setting have already drawn illegal motorcycle racers. “Three police operations have been conducted here even before the launch. This must stop before accidents occur,” he said.
He called for strict enforcement and urged young motorists to use the road responsibly.
JKR Terengganu director Ir. Dr. Hasli Ibrahim said the project, which began in August 2021 and finished on October 9, 2025, was completed on schedule, winning recognition for safety and environmental excellence.
The new route shortens travel by 12 kilometres and cuts journey time by 15 minutes, improving access between Besut’s inland and coastal zones.
KKDW’s Mohd Sabri Ramly highlighted that the project is part of Malaysia’s wider RM1.27 billion rural infrastructure investment in Terengganu under RMK-12.
Now, as the road opens to the public, locals hope it will bring sustainable tourism, safer travel, and renewed pride to their coastal district — a shining symbol of progress that must not be tarnished by reckless behaviour.
