Opereta Puisi Melayu Bitara 2025 to Celebrate Malay Civilization and Cultural Identity

PETALING JAYA — The Malaysian Theatre Association (PTM) is set to stage a major cultural production titled Opereta Puisi Melayu Bitara: Warisan Jiwa Melayu – Dari Tamadun ke Perpaduan, a theatrical work highlighting the evolution of Malay civilization and its enduring identity. The performance will take place on 27 November at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Auditorium.

Organised in collaboration with DBP and the Institute of Teacher Education (IPGM), and supported by UiTM and the Office of the Malay Rulers’ Chair, the operetta aims to present an integrated artistic and intellectual experience.

Director and PTM President, Sakrani Samsuddin, explained that the operetta is based on literary works by Senator Prof. Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr. Awang Sariyan, a leading scholar of Malay language and civilization.

Sakrani said the production blends poetry recital, dramatic acting, dance and vocal performance to portray the journey of the Malay world — from its historical roots to its quest for unity in the modern age.

The operetta features selected poems performed by notable Malaysian theatre figures including Haryani Haron, Lin Haslinaz and Dr. Ferri Anugerah Makmur.
