Sabah State Election: Early Voting Begins Amid Intense Multi-Cornered Contests

PUTATAN: Sabah’s 17th state election entered a decisive phase today as 58 early voting centres opened their doors to 24,426 military and police voters along with their spouses.

According to the EC, the early voting cohort consists of 11,697 members of the armed forces and 12,729 police personnel — a significant share of the total electorate ahead of the main polling day on 29 November.

One of the most observed centres, Sekolah Agama Kem Lok Kawi, handled 3,067 early voters from Tanjung Keramat through seven dedicated streams. Many voters arrived early, highlighting strong participation among security forces.

Tanjung Keramat, which has over 26,000 registered voters, is witnessing an intense 11-way contest, featuring candidates from nearly all major Sabah political blocs and an Independent — making it one of the key battlegrounds this election.

Across the state, more than 500 candidates are competing for 73 seats, underlining the scale and competitiveness of this year’s state polls.
