KANGAR: The number of flood victims in Perlis has risen to 5,244 from 1,559 families, marking a worsening situation especially in Kangar as of 8 p.m.
Authorities have opened 17 PPS across three districts to house evacuees — Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau.
Kangar recorded the highest number of displaced residents, while rescue operations remain ongoing.
This includes the evacuation of two villagers in Kampung Bakau who were trapped for two days before being rescued by APM teams.
Several main roads in Kangar remain submerged and continuous rainfall tonight is expected to add to the challenges.
Perlis previously faced severe flooding in 2010, displacing tens of thousands.
