QV-E: A Malaysian-made EV driven by local innovation

KUALA LUMPUR — The launch of Perodua’s first electric vehicle, the QV-E, shines a spotlight on the ambition of 44-year-old Malaysian engineer Chok Jia Jiunn, who is helping define the future of the nation’s automotive industry.

Chok said his mission was to prove that Malaysians can design and build an EV that reflects both technological advancement and local identity. Working with more than 100 young engineers, he turned the QV-E from concept to reality over a two-year development journey.

The team’s research showed Malaysians prioritise spacious cabins, smooth driving comfort, premium detailing and effortless maintenance — features that shaped the QV-E’s design philosophy.

The EV includes a battery system that can be replaced in 30 minutes and comes equipped with digital drive modes and a futuristic exterior.

Chok hopes Malaysians will feel a sense of pride knowing the QV-E was created entirely by local talent and represents a new milestone for Perodua’s EV ambitions.
