Supplementary RTS Link agreement signed, paving way for joint immigration facility

SINGAPORE — Malaysia and Singapore signed an additional agreement for the RTS Link today, formally concluding negotiations over a shared immigration complex that will support the rail system connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore.

The document was signed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Singapore’s Jeffrey Siow, and witnessed by Prime Ministers Anwar Ibrahim and Lawrence Wong.

According to Loke, the co-location arrangement will place immigration officers from both countries under one roof to enable more efficient clearance procedures.

The RTS infrastructure is progressing as scheduled and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with operations beginning the following January.

Anwar said his discussion with Wong also covered border congestion, improvements to the cross-border taxi scheme, and sensitive issues such as Batu Puteh and maritime boundaries.

He emphasised that these matters involve sovereignty and require careful negotiations.

The two leaders also reviewed advancements in bilateral energy cooperation, especially involving Sarawak’s electricity exports.
