KLANG – Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing sustainable soil management practices, which he described as central to the nation’s agri-food strategy.
In a speech read by Datuk Nor Sam Alwi, he stated that although Malaysia is not a dry country, it still faces risks such as soil degradation and drought, making sustainable soil care essential.
Under the 2026 Budget, RM120 million—including RM100 million for paddy soil rehabilitation—has been allocated to improve productivity for local farmers.
He added that healthy soil not only sustains agriculture but also contributes significantly to urban ecosystems by supporting climate moderation and clean water filtration.
