KUALA LUMPUR: Police are conducting a detailed investigation into a lawyer’s claim that he received a death threat on social media, allegedly tied to the case of three men shot dead in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on 24 November.
According to ACP Shamsudin Mamat, the lawyer encountered the threatening comment from an unknown individual while at his office before lodging a report at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters. The threat is believed to be directed at him due to his involvement in the ongoing legal case.
Police have since recorded his statement and are investigating under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The public has been reminded not to circulate unverified claims that may disrupt the investigation.
The original case involved three suspected members of the Durian Tunggal Gang who were shot dead after one of them attacked a police officer with a machete, causing severe injuries to the officer’s left arm.
