No Disruption for IndiGo’s Chennai–Penang Flights Amid India Pilot Shortage

GEORGE TOWN — Despite an operational meltdown affecting thousands of IndiGo passengers in India, the airline’s Chennai–Penang route continues to function without interruptions.

Tourism Exco Wong Hon Wai confirmed that flight 6E1045 landed at 8.09am today, noting that the direct connection has not been impacted over the past few days.

IndiGo’s crisis was triggered by the newly enforced FDTL flight duty rules, which reduced crew availability due to longer mandatory rest times.

Authorities in India have begun an inquiry into the airline’s management and staffing oversight.

Launched in late 2024, the Chennai–Penang service offers enhanced comfort, including lie-flat seats.

Penang continues to see strong growth in the Indian visitor market.
