KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has affirmed that MCA remains a component of Barisan Nasional (BN), dismissing speculation about strained ties between the two parties.
Johari noted that while each political party has its own internal considerations, there has been no indication that MCA intends to withdraw from the coalition.
“As far as I can see, MCA is still with BN. In modern politics, no party can dominate alone, so cooperation is essential.
“Our relationship with MCA spans over 50 years and remains solid,” he told reporters after officiating the Rubber Research 100th Anniversary Celebration.
Previously, MCA said it would review its position in BN if UMNO formed an exclusive cooperation with DAP ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).
