The pressure is immense, but midfielder Haykal Danish believes that Malaysia’s under-23 squad has the heart and determination to rise against Vietnam — a powerhouse in the region.
To him, the match is not merely about advancing to the semifinals.
It is about rewriting Malaysia’s recent history in the SEA Games, including early elimination in 2023 and failure to secure bronze in 2021.
“A draw is enough, yes. But that’s not who we are. We want to win — for the team, for the fans, for the country,” Haykal declared.
He acknowledged Vietnam’s superior physique but insisted Malaysia’s quicker feet, faster transitions and sharper tactical mindset could turn the tide.
