Johor’s RM4 Million Conversion of Nanyang Market into a Health Clinic

Once a bustling traditional marketplace, the Nanyang Market building in Mount Austin now stands revitalised as a modern maternal and child health clinic — thanks to Johor’s RM4 million investment.

The conversion is part of a broader effort to ease the overwhelming pressure at the Sultan Ismail Health Clinic (KKSI), which sees an astonishing 1,500 patients daily.

According to committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, the new clinic is expected to absorb hundreds of patients a day, reducing the operational strain on KKSI.

With renovated medical rooms, upgraded equipment, and improved patient flow, the clinic is set to fully open by December 15.

This transformation demonstrates Johor’s shift toward creative repurposing of unused public buildings to strengthen community healthcare.
