Sabah Coach Firmly Rejects Racism Allegation, Provides Full Account of On-Field Confrontation

Sabah FC head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny has issued a comprehensive rebuttal to accusations of racism made by PDRM FC midfielder Fadi Awad, calling the claim “unfounded, unfair and deeply hurtful.”

Jean-Paul explained that the incident in question occurred during the first half of their Super League clash at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium, where the match developed into a highly physical contest.

According to him, he approached Fadi briefly — for no more than 30 to 45 seconds — after observing repeated punching motions during duels with Sabah players.

“I repeated my warning in a firmer tone, yes, but never once did I insult him or make any racially-tinged remark,” Jean-Paul clarified.

The Australian-born coach said he is willing to apologise if Fadi felt disrespected by the tone of the instruction, but emphasised that he cannot apologise for something he did not say or mean.

With over 45 years in football, Jean-Paul highlighted that he has coached and worked with players from almost every cultural background.

“I come from a multicultural society. Racism is not acceptable in Australia, and it has never been part of my character,” he stressed.
