KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has urged Thailand and Cambodia to immediately cease all forms of hostility and refrain from any further military action, including the deployment of armed forces to frontline positions, as tensions continue to simmer along their shared border.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the call takes effect from 10pm local time in Thailand and Cambodia, underscoring the urgency of preventing further escalation that could destabilise Southeast Asia.
Anwar said he conveyed Malaysia’s position through separate telephone conversations with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, following his own discussions with US President Donald Trump on the regional security situation.
Malaysia, he stressed, believes diplomacy remains the only viable path to preserving peace and stability in the ASEAN region.
