BUTTERWORTH: Malaysian fire authorities are close to finalising their investigation into a deadly house fire in Taman Rathna, Telok Air Tawar, which left two people dead and one seriously injured.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said the department’s investigation, including laboratory testing and forensic analysis, is nearing completion and will soon be handed over to police.
The fire killed a woman and her adopted daughter, while her son survived with serious injuries and remains under intensive medical care.
Police have yet to determine whether criminal elements were involved and are waiting for DNA and post-mortem reports to complement the fire investigation findings.
The joint probe aims to establish a clear and factual account of the incident.
Family members said the surviving victim remains traumatised but is showing signs of improvement.
Authorities have emphasised that a thorough and transparent investigation is essential to ensure accountability and public confidence.
