KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara has approved the Supply Bill (Budget) 2026 after an extensive seven-day debate, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s annual budgetary process.
The bill was passed following its third reading by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, reflecting majority support among senators for the government’s fiscal framework for 2026.
Amir Hamzah said the budget reflects a balanced approach to economic and social development, aligning with the MADANI government’s commitment to inclusive growth and long-term resilience.
He described Budget 2026 as a people-centric blueprint designed to raise living standards, strengthen economic capacity and maintain sustainable public finances.
As the first budget implemented under the 13th Malaysia Plan, Budget 2026 serves as a foundation for medium-term development strategies, setting the tone for policy priorities over the next five years.
With total public spending of RM470 billion, the budget allocates significant resources toward both operational needs and development initiatives, while also leveraging investments from government-linked companies and public-private partnerships.
Amir Hamzah highlighted that the combination of direct government spending and strategic investments aims to stimulate economic activity while preserving fiscal discipline.
The approval of the Supply Bill by the Dewan Negara allows the government to move forward with budget implementation, ensuring continuity in public service delivery and development programmes.
The passage underscores Parliament’s role in scrutinising and endorsing fiscal policy, reinforcing transparency and accountability in public financial management.
