Hat-Trick Heroes Power Malaysia into SEA Games Hockey Final

BANGKOK: Malaysia produced a ruthless display to crush Singapore 12-2 in the men’s hockey semi-final at the SEA Games 2025, reinforcing their status as the dominant force in the competition.

Playing at the Thailand National Sports University in Chonburi, Malaysia wasted little time asserting superiority, with crisp passing, swift transitions and sharp finishing overwhelming the Singaporean defence.

Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan and Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal stole the spotlight by scoring three goals each, setting the platform for one of Malaysia’s most emphatic victories of the tournament.

Syed Syafiq converted three penalty corners with precision, while Azrai Aizad capitalised on open play opportunities to keep the scoreboard ticking. Their contributions were complemented by goals from six other Malaysian players, reflecting the team’s attacking depth.

Singapore struggled to contain Malaysia’s relentless pressure and only found the net twice late in the match, well after the outcome had been decided.

Malaysia’s win sets up a final showdown with hosts Thailand, who advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Indonesia.

Coach Sarjit Singh emphasised the importance of maintaining focus ahead of the final, noting that early goals could prove decisive.

Malaysia are aiming to secure their 17th straight SEA Games men’s hockey gold medal, extending a legacy of dominance that dates back more than five decades.
