Melania Returns to Prime Time as Amazon’s US$40 Million Documentary Draws Global Attention

WASHINGTON: Melania Trump has stepped back into the public spotlight with the release of the first trailer for her Amazon-produced documentary, marking a rare and carefully choreographed return to centre stage for the famously private US First Lady.

Titled Melania and set for release on January 30, the film opens with Melania fixing the camera with an unwavering stare before summing up her husband Donald Trump’s political comeback in four understated words: “Here we go again.”

The teaser follows Melania as she walks into the US Capitol ahead of Trump’s second inauguration, a symbolic moment that signals both personal and political continuity after years of intense public scrutiny.

According to US media reports, Amazon MGM secured the licensing rights to the documentary for an estimated US$40 million. The Wall Street Journal reported that Melania, who served as executive producer, is expected to receive about 70 per cent of that amount — a figure that has drawn criticism and renewed debate about monetising political proximity.

Amazon has promised “unprecedented access” to Melania’s world, with the documentary chronicling the 20 days leading up to Inauguration Day. Viewers are given a behind-the-scenes look at transition planning, closed-door meetings and moments far removed from public view.

The trailer shifts between polished grandeur and scenes that feel deliberately awkward. Melania glides through the White House and the Trump family’s Florida estate in meticulously styled outfits — sunglasses, stilettos and a strapless inaugural gown — while quietly stepping in to shape her husband’s rhetoric.

In one notable moment, she corrects Trump as he rehearses a speech, refining his claim to a legacy as a “peacemaker.”

“Peacemaker and unifier,” she interjects, revealing an assertive yet understated influence.

Another exchange has already sparked discussion about the couple’s dynamic. In a lavish office, Melania calls to congratulate Trump on the speech. When he asks if she watched it, she replies candidly: “I did not… I will see it on the news.”

The footage also includes a January White House photo shoot, travel scenes and more intimate moments, such as Melania placing a white flower at a graveside, offering a rare glimpse into her private emotional world.

Amazon says the documentary provides an inside look at Melania Trump’s re-entry into public life, featuring exclusive footage of critical conversations and personal interactions never before seen.

The film will debut in cinemas worldwide on January 30, followed by a three-part companion series and a streaming release on Prime Video.
