KLUANG: An elderly woman was killed in a tragic road accident involving two vehicles along Kilometer 32 of the Renggam–Simpang Renggam road here on Thursday morning.
The collision, which occurred at approximately 8.10am, involved a Perodua Myvi driven by the victim and an Isuzu lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said police received information about the crash shortly after it happened and dispatched officers to the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Myvi was travelling from Renggam towards Simpang Renggam, while the lorry, driven by a 38-year-old man, was heading in the opposite direction.
Upon reaching the location, the Myvi is believed to have lost control, veered into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the lorry.
The impact caused severe damage to the front section of the car, and the elderly woman suffered fatal injuries to her chest and right leg. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The lorry driver sustained injuries to his right leg and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Bahrin said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police are continuing their investigation, including examining road conditions, vehicle speed and possible contributing factors prior to the crash.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward to assist with the investigation.
