PETALING JAYA – Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, wrapped up their group stage campaign as runners-up in Group B at the BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou today.
Despite already booking their semi-final berth earlier, the world No. 4 pair were edged out by China’s top-ranked pair Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping, losing 18-21, 24-26 in 53 minutes.
The result leaves Tang Jie-Ee Wei with two victories and one defeat, enough to secure second place in the group behind the Chinese duo.
Their achievement also marks their second successive semi-final qualification at the tournament.
The semi-final matchups will be confirmed after the completion of all group fixtures later today.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s other representatives in Group B, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai, finished at the bottom of the group after suffering a straight-game defeat to Indonesia’s Jafar Hidyatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, ending their campaign without a single win.
