No Malaysian Representation in Men’s Doubles Semifinals After Both Pairs Exit BWF Season Finale

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s hopes of advancing in the men’s doubles competition at the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 were dashed after both national pairs fell short at the final hurdle of the group stage, ending their campaigns in Hangzhou without a semifinal berth.

Olympic bronze medallists Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fought hard in their must-win match against India’s top pair Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. Despite taking the first set 21–17, the Malaysians could not sustain their momentum and eventually succumbed 18–21, 15–21 in the next two sets.

The result placed them third in Group B, eliminating their chances of moving into the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun faced a stern challenge against South Korea’s world No.1 pair Kim Won Ho and Seo Sung Jae. The Malaysian duo showed resilience and pushed the match to the limit, but fell short 23–25, 14–21, 19–21, also finishing third in their group.

While the setbacks mark the end of Malaysia’s men’s doubles journey in the tournament, the performances showcased determination and potential, offering lessons to strengthen preparations for upcoming international events.

Malaysia still has cause for optimism, with Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei advancing in mixed doubles alongside women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah who successfully secured semifinal berths.
