KUCHING, Dec 21 — Several major landmarks in Kuching now glow in striking red, white, blue and yellow as the city rolls out a special Jalur Gemilang lighting projection to commemorate its selection as one of the host cities for the 2027 SEA Games.
The initiative by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) symbolises pride, solidarity and readiness ahead of the regional sporting event, while also fostering public enthusiasm and awareness.
The lighting display covers major locations including the DBKU headquarters, Satok Bridge, Darul Hana Bridge and several well-known structures in the city. The projection will run throughout the week leading up to New Year 2026 celebrations, reflecting ongoing support for Malaysia’s role as Games host.
Kuching North Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said the effort demonstrates Kuching’s commitment to delivering an impactful hosting experience while celebrating community unity and sporting passion.
He said the initiative is expected to amplify the Games’ visibility nationwide, inspire community participation and strengthen Kuching’s image as a modern, energetic and globally connected city.
Hilmy expressed hope that the lighting campaign would further uplift the spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness while preparing residents to welcome visitors, athletes and officials when the time comes.
Observers believe the creative lighting effort also brings significant tourism value, enhancing city night views, encouraging public interaction and positioning Kuching as a vibrant SEA Games destination.
As Kuching lights up in patriotic brilliance, the message is clear — the city stands proud, united and ready to shine on the international stage in 2027.
