TNB enhances safety readiness and support for affected communities

As Malaysia braces for floods, TNB enhances safety readiness and support for affected communities

KUALA LUMPUR – With communities preparing for possible flooding during the Northeast Monsoon, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is stepping up its emergency readiness to protect lives, maintain safety and ensure power supply can be restored in the shortest possible time.

Chief Grid Distribution Officer Ir. Mahathir Nor Ismail said TNB takes public safety seriously, especially for residents in flood-prone areas, and therefore will shut down substations in submerged locations to avoid life-threatening electrical risks.

Emergency assets including mobile generators, rescue boats, 4WD vehicles and skilled technical teams have been strategically deployed to support immediate recovery work once conditions improve.

TNB is also intensifying public awareness efforts to ensure households understand the dangers of electricity during flooding, while real-time monitoring through the FARA flood analysis system allows early identification of high-risk areas.

More than 539 substations nationwide have already undergone upgrades as part of ongoing protection efforts.

Mahathir advised the public to switch off the main power supply before evacuation, avoid touching submerged appliances and engage licensed electricians for inspections after floods recede.

Verified information is available through the myTNB app and official TNB platforms, while outages can be reported via TNB CareLine and hotline 15454.
