Fatal Accident at Airport Construction Site Raises Workplace Safety Concerns

KOTA BHARU – A routine day at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport construction project turned tragic when a 22-year-old worker died while on duty, while another sustained injuries in an incident that occurred late this afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Muhammad Mas Idham Mahamad from Selangor, was confirmed dead at the site after examination by medical personnel. Another worker suffered a broken leg and is receiving treatment.

According to Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Station chief, Alam Nasut Ilias, firefighters rushed to the location after receiving an emergency call at 4.49pm.

When the team arrived, they found both victims at the scene, with one unconscious and later confirmed dead.

Although details surrounding the incident remain unclear, the tragedy has raised questions over safety protocols at large-scale construction sites. Authorities are expected to investigate all relevant aspects including equipment condition, compliance with safety standards and on-site supervision.
