Shahidan dismisses claims of coordinated effort to oust Perlis MB, urges calm and respectful resolution

ARAU: Perlis Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has denied that there is any coordinated political manoeuvre behind alleged statutory declarations signed by eight PN assemblymen withdrawing support for Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

He emphasised that the matter must be handled by the party’s central leadership to ensure any decision made follows proper channels and reflects collective party consensus rather than individual actions.

“For now, what is being discussed is largely speculation. The central leadership will meet and determine the next course of action,” Shahidan said during a programme in Arau.

Recent reports claimed that eight PN assemblymen — five from Bersatu and three from Pas — had met the Raja of Perlis to submit SDs rejecting Mohd Shukri’s leadership, with Bersatu said to have proposed three replacement names.

Shahidan stressed that the matter should be addressed prudently, warning against confrontational politics that could damage public confidence and weaken the coalition.

“We won because the public saw unity within PN. This should not become a weakness. It is not a crisis, but a difference of opinion,” he said.

He also pointed out that the appointment of the Menteri Besar traditionally lies with the Perlis ruler, who will select a candidate commanding majority support.

“This is not about individual ambition or positions, but about managing the situation gracefully and wisely,” he added.

Shahidan called on all parties to remain calm, avoid provocative remarks and allow the central leadership sufficient space to make a final decision.
