SPPP advances digital transformation with 2026-2030 Digital Strategic Plan, AI to drive operational innovation

GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Port Commission (SPPP) has strengthened its digital transformation agenda through the introduction of its Digital Strategic Plan 2026-2030, positioning the organisation to adapt to emerging technological demands and enhance port governance and operational effectiveness.

Designed as a forward-looking extension of its earlier strategic initiatives, the plan aims to shape SPPP into a digitally advanced, resilient and efficient port authority capable of supporting rapidly evolving global maritime trends.

According to SPPP Chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, the strategic roadmap outlines a structured and integrated ICT approach to ensure every technological investment contributes directly to operational improvements and strategic growth.

Central to the plan are four key thrusts: institutionalising digital practices, enhancing ICT infrastructure security, strengthening core application systems and empowering digital talent across the organisation.

Yeoh emphasised that artificial intelligence (AI) will serve as the primary technological enabler, supporting automation, predictive analytics, process optimisation and improved decision-making across critical operational areas.

Beyond technological enhancement, the plan also prioritises workforce readiness through digital upskilling, AI knowledge development and building an innovation-driven work culture.

Recognising potential implementation challenges such as cybersecurity vulnerabilities, resource allocation and structural change management, SPPP will adopt a phased execution framework backed by strong governance and data protection policies.

The Digital Strategic Plan reflects SPPP’s commitment to aligning with national digital initiatives, supporting Penang’s digital economy direction and reinforcing its relevance as a strategic port authority in the region.
