Selangor religious authority says allegation of palace protection for Qadiani group ‘baseless and insulting’

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) has strongly refuted claims that influential individuals with palace connections hinder enforcement against the Qadiani movement in the state.

Director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said such accusations were baseless and amounted to an insult to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who has consistently demonstrated strong commitment in addressing deviant teachings and safeguarding Islamic doctrine in Selangor.

He clarified that challenges in enforcement arise due to earlier fatwa decisions which determined that Qadiani followers are outside the Islamic faith, meaning Syariah criminal provisions cannot be applied to them as the law only covers Muslims.

He also stressed that Jais has never received any credible information suggesting the involvement of individuals associated with the palace in protecting the group.

Jais confirmed that it has reviewed a viral TikTok sermon that linked deviant religious activities in Selangor to certain parties including the palace.

The preacher involved is a recognised teaching permit holder and the matter will be evaluated to determine whether his statement breached existing regulations. Jais reminded religious speakers to ensure accuracy, propriety and responsibility in their statements to avoid misleading the public and to maintain respect towards the Sultan and the royal institution.
