Bukit Bintang is set to captivate global attention on January 3 with the launch of “I LITE U”, a grand illumination and cultural showcase marking the start of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the event, while internationally acclaimed Malaysian actress and Oscar winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh will join in support of the national tourism campaign.
According to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, the programme is jointly organised by KPKT, MOTAC, the Federal Territories Department and DBKL. He said this collaboration highlights Malaysia’s unity and shared vision under Malaysia MADANI.
The event will feature a major parade involving 20 contingents, stage performances by local artistes and spectacular lighting displays. Several main roads in Bukit Bintang will be temporarily closed to facilitate the programme.
Nga urged Malaysians to attend and celebrate together while encouraging the use of public transport to reduce congestion. He also reminded the public about the enforcement of mandatory community service for littering offences beginning January 1, 2026.
As Malaysia prepares to welcome global travellers, the event sets the tone for a year of vibrancy, hospitality and economic rejuvenation driven by tourism.
