RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Government Operations Room has warned that Gaza is facing a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation, saying 200,000 prefabricated shelter units are urgently needed to house families left homeless amid severe storms and winter weather.
Thousands of tents have reportedly been destroyed or flooded across the territory, leaving displaced Palestinians exposed to freezing temperatures and heavy rainfall, according to the statement carried by WAFA.
The Al-Rasheed Coastal Street, stretching around 26 kilometres, has been severely affected as rising seawater and strong waves swept through makeshift encampments along the coastal line, damaging shelters and forcing families into further displacement.
The authority noted that temporary tents provide only minimal protection, and many partially damaged houses have collapsed under weather pressure, increasing threats to civilian lives.
Meanwhile, humanitarian agencies continue to face major challenges in delivering essential assistance due to supply shortages and ongoing Israeli restrictions on aid access into Gaza.
The operations room appealed to the United Nations and international bodies to intensify pressure on Israel to allow the immediate entry of prefabricated homes, tents and other shelter materials to help secure safer living conditions for displaced Palestinians and to reduce the growing humanitarian risks.
