MACC Records Statement from Former Minister Over Alleged RM5 Million Bribe and Lamborghini Gift

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded the statement of a former Cabinet minister who is being investigated over allegations of receiving approximately RM5 million in bribes and a luxury Lamborghini vehicle linked to billboard and land transfer projects in Kuala Lumpur.

According to sources, the RM5 million payment is believed to have originated from a property development company, while the luxury car was allegedly provided by a billboard advertising firm.

The former minister reportedly appeared at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya to give his statement. Investigators are now working to trace the financial trail related to the acquisition of the luxury vehicle.

Preliminary investigations also revealed claims that several land parcels previously earmarked for the construction of a surau were transferred to a proxy company. The matter remains under scrutiny.

So far, statements from 16 witnesses, including government officials and company owners, have been recorded to facilitate investigations into the two cases.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 on suspicion of receiving bribes. He also stated that no asset seizure or bank account freezing has been carried out at this stage.

Investigations are ongoing as MACC continues efforts to gather additional documentary and financial evidence.
