Pahang Hit by Floods Again as Johor Records Rising Number of Evacuees

Flood conditions have returned to Pahang following continuous heavy rain, while Johor has also reported a significant increase in the number of evacuees as the northeast monsoon continues to affect several parts of the country.

In Pahang, the floods were triggered primarily in Rompin after prolonged rainfall caused several residential areas to be inundated. As of 4pm, a total of 49 victims from 13 families had been relocated to a temporary relief centre to ensure their safety. According to the district disaster management secretariat, all evacuees are currently housed at the Balai Raya Kampung Setajam relief centre, which began operating at noon.

Meanwhile, the Public Info Banjir portal reported that water levels at Sungai Rompin in Kampung Kerpal and Sungai Pukin have surpassed the warning level as of 3pm. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid concerns that continued rainfall may worsen the flood situation.

In Johor, Segamat remains the most affected area, with the number of flood victims rising to 173 individuals from 58 families across seven temporary evacuation centres. This marks an increase compared to the 148 evacuees recorded earlier in the morning.

Johor State Disaster Committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the evacuees are currently being accommodated at several relief centres, including Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tasek, Balai Raya Kampung Jabi, Dewan Serbaguna Pekan Air Panas, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Orang Asli Segamat Kecil and SJKC Tah Kang. Additionally, 14 victims were relocated to Balai Raya Kampung Paya Lebar.

He also confirmed that two major rivers in Segamat have reached dangerous levels — Sungai Muar in Kampung Awat recorded 20.12 metres while Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap recorded 8.66 metres. The situation has prompted continuous monitoring by relevant agencies.

Flood conditions have also disrupted transportation networks. Three roads have been completely closed to all vehicles: Jalan Jabi–Bukit Tempurung in Segamat due to flooding, Felda Tenggaroh 3 in Mersing due to a landslide, and the Kesang–Sungai Rambai bridge in Tangkak, which was shut down after cracks were detected.

Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious, comply with instructions from disaster management authorities and prioritise safety at all times. Relief assistance and essential supplies are being channelled to affected families as agencies continue to manage and monitor the flood situation.
