Lee Lam Thye urges Malaysia to stand firm, stop nation from becoming drug hub

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must send a clear signal that it will not allow itself to be turned into a manufacturing base, storage point or transit route for dangerous drugs, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

The Ikatan Komuniti Selamat chairman warned that drug syndicates today operate with sophisticated methods and strong networks, creating severe risks to national safety and social stability.

He said drug abuse tears families apart, increases crime, burdens hospitals and undermines the nation’s progress.

Lee commended the tireless work of enforcement agencies and called for continuous, united efforts involving intelligence cooperation, strict regulation, stronger laws, border control, community awareness and youth education.

He emphasised that the war against drugs cannot rely on enforcement alone and requires the involvement of parents, schools, NGOs, the private sector and society as a whole.
