Mysterious object believed to be space debris washes up in Nenasi, declared safe

PEKAN: A large mysterious object suspected to be space debris has washed ashore along the Nenasi coastline in Pekan, drawing attention from authorities and residents alike.

The object, discovered by villagers around 5pm on Tuesday, was reported to the authorities and later examined by relevant agencies.

According to Pekan district police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, early findings indicate that the debris likely fell from space into the sea before drifting to shore. Tests by the Malaysian Atomic Energy Department confirmed the object contained no radiation.

For public safety, the debris has been transported to Nenasi Police Station where it is being kept pending further investigation.

Police lines have been placed around the object, which is believed to weigh several hundred kilogrammes and shows signs of sea exposure, including barnacle growth and damaged surfaces.
